Our pedagogy

The pedagogy

Our pedagogy draws inspiration from the work of pioneers in pedagogy such as Maria Montessori, Célestin Freinet, John Dewey, Alexander Neill or Rudolf Steiner. Its foundations are firmly anchored in current research in learning sciences, psychology, sociology, neuroscience, and the humanities (philosophy and anthropology).

With the support and supervision of the Educational Board, the teaching team designs an evidence-based pedagogy and the scientific evaluation of pedagogical practices, in terms of academic success and well-being at school. Our scope of analysis includes actions such as multilevel classes, peer-to-peer tutoring, and soft skills teaching

The Ecole Bilingue Avenir is a school in which everyone has a part to play: students and teachers, of course, but also parents and other school staff members. It functions on fundamental principles:

- Every child is unique: they have their own learning style, interests and abilities; the school’s role is to take all these elements into account to help them discover and harmoniously develop their potential

Teachers need to be aptly trained in order to accompany each child in the best possible way. The ratio of staff to students has to remain small in order to allow a personalized approach.

Education is not limited to acquiring knowledge, but also has to allow children to: Know themselves, regulate their emotions, develop social skills, learn how to learn, know how to welcome and be respectful of differences, develop their self-confidence and self-esteem, develop their capacity for criticism and self-criticism

As early as the 19th century, pedagogue John Dewey advocated that education should engage students in a 'learning by doing' process, to make them active. The starting point of students' learning should be their own areas of interest. Children are naturally curious, eager to learn and to discover the world that surrounds them. At the Ecole Bilingue Avenir, they can participate in research-based learning, based on their own interests.
